Introduction

  1. By entering the Meet A Star Competition (the Competition), the Entrant (as defined below) agrees to be bound by and to comply with these terms and conditions (as amended from time to time by the Company in its sole discretion). These terms and conditions are the rules that apply to the Competition (the Rules).

  2. A copy of the Rules will be published on www.meetastar.com (the Website).

  3. The Competition is organised and promoted by Meet A Star Limited of 18 Eastwood Street, London SW16 6PX (the Company).

  4. The Company reserves the right to cancel the Competition or to amend or supplement the Rules at any time that it becomes necessary to do so.

  5. The Company will be the sole decision-maker of any matter of interpretation of the Rules and any aspect of the content of, or playing of, the Competition. The Company reserves the right not to enter into correspondence relating to such matters and its decision as to any matter arising out of or in connection with the Rules, shall be final. Any queries about the Competition or the Rules should be directed in writing to: help@meetastar.com.

  6. In the event of any dispute regarding the Rules or otherwise relating to the Competition, the decision of the Company shall be final.

  7. The Entrant acknowledges and agrees that other than in respect of the Competition, the Company has no official association with the athlete participating in the Competition in the relevant month (the Star), and the Competition is not endorsed by any club, team, organisation or other third party whom the Star may represent or be associated with from time to time.

Entrants

  1. Each monthly Competition will run from 00:01 on the first day of the relevant month until 23:59 on the last day of the same month (the Closing Date). Any entry made after the Closing Date and/or other than in accordance with the entry requirements contained in the Rules will not be considered. The Company will not accept any responsibility for any failure to receive any given entry by the Closing Date as a result of delay or failure in transmission or otherwise.

  2. The Company reserves the right to change the opening or Closing Date in the event of circumstances beyond its reasonable control, provided that it takes all reasonable steps to ensure that Entrants who participated in the Competition prior to the date change are not disadvantaged. Circumstances beyond the Company’s control do not include insufficient numbers of entries to the Competition.

  3. By entering the Competition, all Entrants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the Rules. All entry instructions form part of the Rules.

  4. The Company reserves the right to verify the eligibility of any Entrant. The Company further reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant if, in the opinion of the Company, such Entrant has breached any of the Rules or otherwise acted improperly or dishonestly.

  5. Employees, officers and directors of the Company, their immediate family members and any individual directly or indirectly associated with the operation of the Competition are not eligible to enter the Competition. Entries sent via agents or third parties will not be accepted.

  6. All Entrants: (i) must be resident in a country specified by the Company (in relevant promotional materials relating to the Competition and/or on the Website) as being able to participate in the Competition; (ii) must be at least 18 years of age; and (iii) must have the consent of their parent or legal guardian.

  7. The Company will not accept entries that are: (i) automatically generated by computer; (ii) completed by third parties or in bulk; or (iii) incomplete.

Prizes

  1. Each monthly Competition is a competition for the chance for a person (the Prize Winner) and one companion to win a prize of a trip to meet the relevant Star together with two tickets (in total) to a sporting event (the Prize). There will also be up to ten runner-up prizes each month, which will each be a shirt signed by the Star (the Runner-Up Prizes).

  2. The Company shall select the Prize Winner and up to ten runner-up Entrants (together, the Winners) at random from all of the correct and valid entries for that month’s Competition, and shall use reasonable endeavours to do so within two weeks of the Closing Date. The Winners will be notified by the Company via the mobile number that the Winners used to enter the Competition. Should any Winner not acknowledge receipt of their win within the date specified in the notification, the Company shall reserve the right to select an alternative Winner. The Company shall make available the details of the Winners upon request, provided such request is received by the Company in writing or by email within one month after the Closing Date of the relevant Competition.

  3. The Prize and the Runner-Up Prizes will be awarded at the Company’s discretion and the Prize and the Runner-Up Prizes will not be awarded to any Entrant who, in the opinion of the Company, has breached any of the Rules or has otherwise acted improperly or dishonestly.

  4. Events may occur that render the Competition itself or the awarding of the Prize or any of the Runner-Up Prizes impossible due to reasons beyond the control of the Company. These reasons may include (without limitation) any fire, flood, lightning, casualty, lockout, strike, labour condition, industrial action of any kind, royal bereavement, unavoidable accident, act of terrorism, national calamity or riot, Act of God, the enactment of any Act of Parliament or the act of any other legally constituted authority, any cause or event arising out of or attributable to war or civil commotion, or any other cause or event (whether of a similar or dissimilar nature), any unforeseen circumstance preventing the Star’s attendance and any other event outside the control of the Company. The Company shall not be liable for any failure or delay to perform its obligations (including its failure to provide any element of the Prize or Runner-Up Prizes) caused by any such reason beyond its control.

  5. The Company may at its absolute discretion vary or amend the Prize and/or Runner-Up Prizes, and the Entrant agrees that no liability shall attach to Company as a result thereof, provided that (in relation to changes to the Prize or the Runner-Up Prizes) the Company will provide a reasonably equivalent prize.

  6. The Prize and the Runner-Up Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be substituted with a cash alternative. To the extent that the Prize includes tickets, the Prize Winner and his/her companion must comply with the terms and conditions of those tickets.

  7. The Winners shall not act in a manner that is defamatory of any person or entity or in such a way as to bring the Company or the Competition, the Star or any other person or entity connected with the Competition into disrepute or to materially harm its or their name or reputation in any way.

  8. Where the Prize includes any travel by the Prize Winner and his/her companion, the Prize Winner and his/her companion may be required to hold a valid passport and/or other necessary travel documentation or visas and fulfil any relevant travel or visa requirements. Where the Prize necessitates travel on a specific date and/or to a specific venue, the Prize Winner and his/her companion must be able to travel on the date/to the venue specified by the Company and both the Prize Winner and his/her companion must travel on the same itinerary.

  9. Where the Prize includes travel to a destination outside the UK, the Company will use reasonable endeavours to arrange direct flights from an airport convenient to the Prize Winner, but the Company reserves the right to require the Prize Winner and his/her companion to take an outbound flight from, and a return flight to, a London airport. The Prize Winner and his/her companion shall be fully responsible for their travel to and from any UK airport specified by the Company, and for all insurance, applicable taxes, costs, expenses and charges not specified as being included in the Prize in the Rules and any information provided by the Company in respect of the relevant monthly Competition.

  10. Where the Prize includes hotel accommodation (for example because it is taking place outside of the UK), the Prize Winner and his/her companion will be responsible for all meals, room service costs and any additional charges or expenses incurred by the Prize Winner and/or his/her companion.

  11. The Prize Winner and his/her companion shall, at all times when meeting the Star, attending any event related to the Competition and/or otherwise enjoying any element of the Prize act at all times in accordance with the highest standards of conduct and not engage in drunkenness, anti-social behaviour or otherwise inappropriate conduct. The Company reserves its rights to disqualify and remove any element of the Prize from the Prize Winner and his/her companion if their conduct is contrary to this paragraph or to the spirit or intention of the Competition more generally.

Use of personal information

  1. Each Entrant, by entering the Competition, consents to the processing of his/her personal data by the Company for the operation of the Competition including the use of his/her entry on official Company emails regarding the Competition and as otherwise provided for pursuant to the Rules.

  2. Save as otherwise described in the Rules, the Company will use the personal information provided by or obtained about an Entrant solely for the purposes of administering or promoting the Competition and providing the Prize and to ensure compliance with the Rules.

  3. The Company and/or the provider of the Prize and/or the Runner-Up Prizes may be required to send personal data relating to Winners (and any companion of a Winner) to third parties inside and outside of the European Economic Area, for the purposes of fulfilling and administering the Competition, the Prize and/or the Runner-Up Prizes, and the Entrants agree to such transfer for these purposes.

  4. By entering the Competition, each Entrant consents to receiving marketing communications from the Company via SMS text message or email in respect of similar products and services. Entrants may opt-out of receiving further marketing communications at any time by texting “STOP” to 82344 or by adding “NO INFO” to the end of your Competition entry. Texting “STOP” will cost one standard network rate message.

  5. The Winners consent to take part in promotional activities of the Company relating to the Competition, including but not limited to posing for photographs, the filming of their meeting with the Star, receipt of Runner-Up Prizes and/or other aspects of the Prize for the Company’s promotional purposes (including on social media) or for the making of a film, documentary or television programme. The Company reserves the right to sub-licence such right to its sponsors, partners, broadcast partners and other relevant third parties on the same basis. The Winners unconditionally and irrevocably waive all related moral (and similar) rights.

  6. Entrants’ names and addresses and the Winners’ photographic images and their comments relating to the Prize and/or Runner-Up Prizes may be used without limitation for future promotional, marketing, public relations, publicity and other purposes of the Company and the Competition in any and all media worldwide without notice to them and without any fee being paid, including but not limited to on the Company’s website and on any promotional materials. The Company reserves the right to sub-licence such right to its sponsors, partners, broadcast partners and other relevant third parties on the same basis.

General

  1. The Company will, for the avoidance of doubt, own and/or retain all rights in relation to the Competition including all intellectual property rights relating to the Competition and all audio-visual footage (including videos and photos) and recordings generated in relation to the Prize and/or Runner-Up Prizes. The Company shall have the exclusive and unlimited right to exploit any and all rights in the footage and recordings.

  2. The Company will donate a percentage of proceeds from the Competition to its charity partner, The Kemi Malaika Foundation.

  3. The extent of the Company’s responsibility to an Entrant is determined in the context of the Entrants being responsible for their own actions and the information provided by them.

  4. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Company cannot accept any liability to Entrants for any type of loss which Entrants may suffer as a result of entry to or removal from the Competition. Moreover, each Winner accepts full responsibility for any risks of injury suffered in the course of receiving, using or enjoying the Prize or the Runner-Up Prize (as applicable) and for damage to property caused by the Winner (including by the companion of the Prize Winner) through no fault, negligence or wilful misconduct on the part of the Company and hereby releases, waives and discharges the Company from all and any liability relating thereto. Nothing in the Rules will limit the Company’s liability for death or personal injury arising from its negligence.

  5. Any breach by an Entrant of the Rules or any improper or dishonest act by an Entrant will entitle the Company to suspend and/or remove an Entrant from the Competition without notice and to prohibit such Entrant from applying to re-enter the Competition. If an Entrant is suspended or removed by the Company, that Entrant shall not be eligible to participate in the Competition in any month under any other identity or for any other reason.

  6. If any of the terms of the Rules are determined to be illegal, invalid, or otherwise enforceable then the remaining terms shall continue in full force and effect.

  7. The Rules (and any non-contractual obligations arising out of them) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and the parties agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.
